Day 2: Minarets, Medinas & the Road to Rabat

After breakfast, explore Casablanca's most iconic landmark — the magnificent Hassan II Mosque, the seventh largest mosque in the world and the second largest in Africa, with the tallest minaret on earth rising 210 metres above the Atlantic coastline, its laser beam directed nightly towards Mecca. A masterwork of modern Moroccan craftsmanship, it is simply breathtaking. Lunch is at your leisure before heading north to Rabat, Morocco's elegant administrative capital. Breakfast before departing for Meknes, the great Ismaili capital encircled by 40 kilometres of monumental walls. Visit the triumphant Bab Mansour gate, the vast royal stables and the Jewish mellah quarter before continuing to the extraordinary Roman ruins of Volubilis — one of the best-preserved Roman sites in North Africa and a UNESCO World Heritage Site — where mosaics and columns rise from the Moroccan plain in remarkable condition. Continue to Fez for a half-day guided tour of the medieval medina, founded in the 8th century.
