Day 1
Day 1: All Aboard for Tsavo West
Your rail safari begins with an early pick-up from your North Coast hotel, or an earlier collection from the South Coast, for the transfer to Mombasa's Miritini Terminus. At around 08:00, the Madaraka Express pulls out of the station, and from the comfort of your first-class carriage you watch the coastal palms and villages give way to the vast, sunlit plains of the interior. Arriving at Mtito Andei at about 11:20, you're met by your lodge vehicle and enter Tsavo West National Park, game viewing en route through a dramatic landscape of volcanic hills and ancient lava flows. Lunch awaits at Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge, overlooking a waterhole frequented by elephants and buffalo, before an afternoon game drive that lasts until sunset.

Day 2
Day 2: From Lava Fields to Kilimanjaro
Start the morning on foot with an escorted nature walk, as your guide reveals the tracks, plants and birdlife that are easily missed from a vehicle. Then set off for Amboseli National Park, where the snow-capped summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak, rises above the plains. Arrive at Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge in time for lunch, then head out on an afternoon game drive to see the park's famous big-tusked elephants wandering through the swamps beneath the mountain. As the sun goes down, gather for a festive bush barbecue dinner under a sky full of stars, the perfect celebration of your Kenyan safari.

Day 3: Back to the Coast by Rail
After breakfast, take a last look at Kilimanjaro in the morning light before transferring to Emali Station, with game viewing as you leave the park. Board the Madaraka Express at around 09:30 and settle into first class for the scenic ride back toward the Indian Ocean, keeping watch for wildlife from the window as the train crosses the Tsavo plains. Arriving at Miritini Terminus at about 14:00, you're met and transferred to your North or South Coast beach hotel, ready to trade the bush for sun, sand and sea.
