1

Day 1: Mombasa to Tsavo East National Park

Your safari begins with an early morning pick-up from your beach hotel on Kenya's North or South Coast. Travel inland along the Mombasa–Nairobi Highway, entering Tsavo East National Park at Bachuma Gate. Raise the pop-up roof of your safari vehicle for a game drive en route to your lodge, watching for Tsavo's famous red elephants, dusted crimson by the park's iron-rich soil. Arrive at Ashnil Aruba Lodge (or similar) in time for lunch, where terraces overlook the vast plains and the historic Aruba Dam, a magnet for wildlife. After a relaxing break, set out on an afternoon game drive in search of lion, cheetah, buffalo, gerenuk and fringe-eared oryx, returning to the lodge as the sun sets over the savanna.

2

Day 2: Tsavo East to Amboseli National Park

After an early breakfast, bid farewell to Tsavo East and set off west for Amboseli National Park, enjoying a game drive along the way. Arrive in time for lunch at Amboseli Praro Camp (or similar), set within the 35,000-acre Aloca Conservancy against the breathtaking backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak. Settle into your elegant tented suite, then relax by the pool overlooking a waterhole where elephants, giraffes and antelope often come to drink. In the late afternoon, head into the national park for a game drive across Amboseli's open plains and swamps, renowned for their herds of big-tusked elephants silhouetted against the snow-capped mountain. Return to camp at sunset for dinner and stories around the campfire beneath the stars.

3

Day 3: Amboseli to Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary

Rise early for a morning game drive, when Amboseli's wildlife is most active and Kilimanjaro is often at its clearest. After breakfast, journey south via Loitokitok along the scenic Rombo route, skirting the foothills of the mountain, to the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary. This privately owned 28,000-acre reserve borders Tsavo and is home to lion, elephant, leopard, cheetah and more than 300 species of birds. Arrive at Salt Lick Safari Lodge (or similar) for lunch; raised entirely on stilts, it offers round-the-clock views over a waterhole and salt lick that draw elephants and buffalo day and night. Enjoy a relaxed afternoon game drive, then, before dinner, set out on a night drive in search of the sanctuary's elusive nocturnal residents.

4

Day 4: Taita Hills to Mombasa

Rise for a 6:30am game drive through the sanctuary as the morning light spills across the plains, then return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast. Afterwards, leave a lasting legacy by taking part in a tree-planting activity, supporting the sanctuary's long-standing commitment to conservation. Continue to Taita Hills Safari Lodge to visit its World War I museum, which tells the little-known story of the East African campaign fought across these very hills between British and German forces. Enjoy a delicious lunch before setting off on the journey back to the coast, arriving at your North or South Coast beach hotel by evening. Settle in for a restful night, with memories of red elephants, Kilimanjaro views and golden savanna sunsets.
