You arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and are met and transferred to your hotel in the heart of the city. The remainder of the day is yours to spend at leisure, settling into the rhythm of Nairobi before the safari ahead. For early arrivals, optional excursions include a visit to an elephant orphanage, a guided cultural walking tour, or an afternoon exploring the city's colonial-era landmarks. This first night is a single-night stay, a natural pause point before you head north into Kenya's wilder frontier the following morning.

Day 2: Nairobi to Shaba — Into Kenya's Northern Frontier

You depart Nairobi and travel north, passing through Thika and winding through landscapes of mountain streams, tea, and coffee plantations. Beyond Nanyuki, the road continues to Isiolo, the frontier town marking your gateway into Kenya's northern wilderness. You arrive at Shaba in time for lunch, then set out on your first game drive of the trip, tracking species found almost nowhere else in Kenya. As the sun sets over the dramatic northern terrain, you return to camp, the day's dust and quiet a fitting introduction to this remote and little-visited reserve.

Day 3: Shaba Game Reserve — Rare Species of the North

Your morning begins with an early game drive through a landscape of rare, arid-adapted wildlife, including Gerenuk, Grevy's zebra, Beisa oryx, and Somali ostrich, before returning for a leisurely breakfast. You spend the late morning at your own pace, relaxing beside the water or on a terrace overlooking the river that shapes this reserve. After lunch, you head out again for an afternoon game drive, watching the northern light shift across the landscape as the day cools. This second night allows you to fully settle into Shaba's rhythms, made famous by the conservation story of Elsa the lioness.

Day 4: Shaba to Lake Nakuru — Flamingo Shores and Rhino Country

You leave the northern frontier behind, tracing a route south through Isiolo and along the scenic foothills of Mount Kenya to Nanyuki. From there, you continue northwest to Nyahururu before turning south toward Lake Nakuru National Park. Game viewing begins as soon as you enter the park, and after lunch and a short rest, you head out on an afternoon drive in search of the lake's famous residents. Lake Nakuru is renowned for its flocks of flamingos and thriving population of Black and White rhinos. This is a single-night stay before you continue toward the Mara.

Day 5: Lake Nakuru to Masai Mara — Crossing the Great Rift Valley

After an early breakfast, you travel south through Njoro and climb the dramatic Mau Escarpment, taking in sweeping views across the Rift Valley. Your route continues to Narok, gateway to Maasailand, winding through Kenya's fertile breadbasket of golden wheat and barley fields. You arrive in the Mara in time for lunch, and after a short rest, head out on your first game drive across the vast savannah. As the sun sets over the plains in warm hues, you return to camp, having crossed some of Kenya's most dramatic geography in a single day.

Day

Day 6: Masai Mara Game Reserve — Heart of the Great Migration

You spend a full day immersed in the Mara's legendary wildlife, beginning with breakfast and a morning game drive before returning to rest ahead of lunch. In the afternoon, you head out again, tracking the movements of the reserve's resident herds and, between July and October, the sweeping drama of the Great Migration. For a different perspective, you may pre-book an optional balloon safari, drifting above the plains at dawn. As the sun sets, you return to camp for an evening shaped by traditional Maasai dance, a vivid close to your final full day in the bush.

Day 7: Masai Mara to Nairobi — Farewell to the Savannah

After breakfast, you depart the Masai Mara, retracing your route through wheat and barley farms to Narok and across the Great Rift Valley via a historic wartime road. You arrive back in Nairobi by early afternoon, where you are dropped at the airport or a hotel of your choice for onward travel.
